I'm getting conflicting information about the extension of deadlines to file mechanic's liens in Nassau County, NY due to Covid-19. Is the Nassau County Clerk accepting lien filings at this time? Will there be an extension of deadlines? Thank you.
As far as I can tell, the Nassau County clerk hasn't completely shut down at any point. Rather, it seems like they're still allowing electronic recording and recording by mail.
Still, they are almost definitely restricting walk-ins, and it's absolutely common for filings to take longer than normal right now. I'm not aware of any official extension of deadlines for Nasseau County records, but when there's a backlog of documents, counties will sometimes date documents based on when they're received.
With all of that being said, contacting the county directly by phone should provide a lot of clarity. You can reach them here (their contact info is on the left hand side of the page): Nassau County Recorder.
