AlabamaMechanics LienPreliminary NoticeRight to Lien

I'm trying to find out the law on a mechanic's lien in Al. A contractor working on a medical building only paid one of the labourers and the other 4 received nothing. The contractor withheld the fact that he paid the one person and refuses to pay the other employees. No-one has said anything to the contractor about the lien yet until we know for sure how to go about the process.

Laborers are generally entitled to mechanics lien rights in Alabama. But, to fully preserve rights, it's important to send a Notice of Unpaid Lien. That way, the owner will be required to withhold some funds from the prime contractor and a mechanics lien can be claimed. What's more, the Notice of Unpaid Lien acts a lot like a Notice of Intent to Lien. And, sending the notice to both the property owner and the contractor can let the contractor know that you understand your rights, that you're serious bout getting paid, and that you're willing to do whatever it takes to make sure that happens.
