Once a Georgia mechanics lien has been filed, it will be valid for a period of one year from the date the claim was recorded. If no action is taken within that timeframe, the claim will expire and no longer be enforceable. Your lien rights should still be intact through July of 2021.

Now that the lien is filed, it's up to the property owner (and potentially the GC depending on your role) to work to resolve the payment issue. One good way to escalate the dispute is to send a Notice of Intent to Foreclose. Consider it a final warning letter to the owner stating that if you are still unpaid, you are ready to file a foreclosure action in court to enforce your claim. This is usually enough to get the ball rollling on payment.

Good luck!
