Enforcing a mechanics lien generally requires securing an attorney to represent you in a lien enforcement action (lawsuit). Levelset discusses that in detail here: What Is “Enforcing” a Mechanics Lien?

A North Carolina lien enforcement must take place within 180 days of last furnishing labor or materials to the project, which is much shorter than many states. Generally, that enforcement suit may be filed any time after the lien is filed. As far as when the actual foreclosure happens: the foreclosure of the project property will generally only take place after a successful lien enforcement suit. And, even then, the property owner will generally be entitled to pay the judgment to avoid their property going into forelosure.
