North Carolina allows claimants to pursue a mechanics lien against the project property (depending on the situation) as well as a claim of lien against the project funds. Unlike a lien against the property, a lien on funds is simply mailed to every party above you on the project - so the property owner, the GC, your customer, and any other parties that may be in between. And, it's generally sent by certified mail with return receipt requested or personally delivered. You can download a template for the Notice of Lien Upon Funds here: North Carolina Mechanics Lien Upon Funds Form. Of course, there are services out there - including Levelset - which can assist in the process, too. Finally, if you're looking for help pursuing a Notice of Lien Upon Funds in the Levelset platform, you should reach out to your account manager or to the Levelset Support team.
