A contractor's failure to execute a written contract could certainly result in them losing the ability to pursue a mechanics lien claim against the project property. However, a contractor's failure to execute a written contract shouldn't negatively affect their subcontractor's ability to file a mechanics lien claim. So, a claimant who's otherwise entitled to lien should still be entitled to pursue their claim, even when their customer failed to execute a written contract with the property owner.
