I was subcontracted by a company to do a roof. I finished the job, sent an invoice and was not paid. He cut all contact with me and blocked me on all levels. So I filed a intent to lien, then my mechanical lien. It was sent to the courthouse and filed. Now the homeowner had a lawyer threaten to file suit against me for slander of title if I dont take the lien off. He said I never filed 779.02 first. I am new to all of this and he said in Wisconsin you have to. Am I up the river without a paddle or do I have a foot to stand on. The homeowner did pay the company but that company has not paid me a dime. I provided all materials and labor. I know, shame on me for not collecting a down payment. It was a friends best friend so I thought I could trust him.
