What happens when we don't have an address for the job to lien?

CaliforniaNotice of Intent to Lien

So in our line of business, we supply roofing material to the general contractors and sometimes orders will get Will Called and we dont have an address for them because either 1. the roofer doesn't know it off the top of his head 2. the roofer doesn't normally give an address because he is a regular good customer So when this happens if something goes wrong and then we don't get payment who do we go after? Or are we just out of luck and that comes as a business loss for us.

I think more information would be needed before someone can give you the full answer you're looking for. But, in general, liens are an enforcement tool that you can use against the property, but you also could have breach of contract rights against your direct customer (which would be your roofer clients it sounds like).

In practice, you should have a pre-lien type info form that you give to your clients that has all of that information for your customer to fill out.
