The architect charged too much for the work, now the project stopped because her vision and mine are different.

VirginiaPayment Disputes

I wanted renovation, needed some updated everywhere, so I called an architect to help me to do it. She stared with being help, but as the project started she insisted her way so strong for her profit, I stopped and she agreed, but she charged her work 35 hours but I don’t agree with the hours, I got a preliminary drawing and a wish list. With that drawing I can’t do anything. I offered her half of the invoice. She has not responded yet. How do I solve this situation?

In regards to invoices, Levelset has provided some useful tips in navigating them. In regards to construction payment, parties should submit invoices with the exact total amount of hours worked for the predetermined price. Yet, this is not always the case. Invoices are typically full of honest mistakes, duplicated, or even fraudulent. A proper invoice review and billing procedure in place can save your construction company's finances.

First, you should verify the work and ensure that it was not only completed but completed correctly. You should also check the scope of the work in the contract documents. You don't want to pay for work that expressly authorized or was performed by someone else. Next, you should request and review supporting documents. An invoice is only as good as the supporting documents. These supporting documents may include: daily reports, timesheets, payroll records, and any additional information that can verify that the work and hours claimed have been performed.
