I am interested in bidding for a public works project, this would be my first project and I am not sure how to proceed. I have questions about CA's prevailing wage requirements and how to become a public works contractor.

In order to perform public works in California, a contractor must typically be registered with the California Department of Industrial Relations ("DIR"). And, contacting the DIR directly to ask about becoming a public works contractor would likely be useful - I'm sure they have programs for new registrants. Plus, they provide prevailing wage training and tutorials. Additionally, keep in mind that there are services like eBacon and Contractors Prevailing Wage who assist with prevailing wage compliance.
