How do I respond to notice of a mechanics lien?

CaliforniaMechanics Lien

What can I do when I hire a general contractor and pay him, but he in turn hires a subcontractor who I know nothing about. I see the guy but I assume that he is the general contractor's employee. Anyway, the general contractor does pay his subcontractor and the subcontractor places a mechanic lien on my property. What can I do to remove the mechanics lien and have the subcontractor guy go after the general contractor who hired him? I paid the general contractor in fully. I assume that a portion of my payment should have gone to the subcontractor.

If the subcontractor failed to file a preliminary notice with you, then the lien can simply be expunged. The lien will also expire in 90 days, if no lawsuit to foreclose it is filed with the court.
