Does our lien deadline extend if we continue to hold onto a property owner's possessions?

CaliforniaForeclosureLien DeadlinesLien Foreclosure

We provided CONTENTS PACKING HANDLING STORAGE LABOR & MISC services at a residential property in California. As part of the job, we were to hold onto the property owner's possessions until the project completed and we were paid. It has been 6 months since we were last onsite and still have not been paid. The property has now been placed into Pre-Foreclosure. Does holding onto these possessions as part of the agreed-upon work extend our lien filing deadline since the project has not yet completed? If not, what else can we do to get paid?

No, packing, handling and storage work is not the permanent kind of improvement you can lien for,  It doesn't matter if you still have the possessions or not.  I recommend a strong demand letter from an attorney to help you get paid.  If the amount is small enough, you may want to consider filing a Small Claims Court action yourself against whoever hired you.
