Do I need to submit a Public Preliminary Notice if we did a private one already?

CaliforniaPreliminary Notice

#3093596 - CCC Performing Arts Center. Here is the info I got from the chat person. Private Preliminary Notice sent on 01/25/20 - both copies sent to the property owner and general contractor were successfully delivered on 1/30. I believe the reason it is still prompting you to send that document is because the document that was sent is the 20-Day Preliminary Notice for private construction projects in California. Since this project is a state/county job, our system is prompting you to send the public version of the 20-day notice.

California requires preliminary notices be sent on both public and private jobs. And, the notice requirements are very similar for both notices. In fact, both the public and private notice requirements cite to the same sections of the California Civil Code (§ 8100-8119) when laying out what information must be included in a preliminary notice. So, sending a preliminary notice intended for a privately owned California construction project may well be sufficient to fulfill the requirements for a notice on a public job. But, to be sure, a preliminary notice for a California public works project must be given to the public entity in charge of the project. So, if notice was sent to the "owner", it'd be important to make sure the appropriate public agency received the preliminary notice originally sent (in addition to the project's GC).
