Do I file a mechanic lien against a person's property?

TexasLien DeadlinesRight to Lien

If I lent money to a person and he gave me the title to his car and or property, what kind of lien would I file against him?

Hello,

You do not get to file a mechanic's lien. Those are for labor and material provided for the improvement of real property.

The closest thing you would have as far as liens is a possessory lien but you do not actually have possession of the vehicle so that is out as well.

What you actually need to file is called a UCC-1. That makes the car secured collateral for the loan you gave. Unless he actually transferred title to you, having the paper title is not going to do anything for you because he can claim title was lost and get the state to send him a new copy. And you cannot have the vehicle repossessed because the title is technically not in your name.
