Can I terminate the contract?

TexasConstruction Contract

Hello,I signed a contract for a patio project about 1 month ago. we need to cancel due to financial reasons. Since the project has not started yet can we cancel? The contract says "By signing this Agreement, Purchaser authorizes _____ company to provide the services and all payments due under this Agreement shall be made in full by Purchaser to _____ company upon completion of the work, unless other arrangements are agreed to in writing." The project has not started so therefore we do not owe money. What is binding us to this contract?

Hello! You are going to want to contact the contractor to find out if they have spent money and time on gathering people and materials. You are also going to want to check the contract to see if there is anything in there that addresses whether you would owe the contractor for early termination or if there is anything that addresses cancellation before work begins.

Hello, there is nothing in the contract that says I would owe money for materials for project before it has started. Contract only says money in owed in full once project is complete. Can the company force the project on me based on this project? Also, there is no mention of cancellation before work begins, only the standard 3 days to cancel policy. Can the company take me to the court and say I have to start the project whether I want to or not?
