My “contractor” is also my ex-partner. We have an agreement that we would continue to live in the home I own and he would finish remodeling it, with a deadline and payment terms for each of us in a written and notarized contract, to allow us to split it cost of all living and then the profit after the home sells. He’s now 8 months past deadline and has not fulfilled any of the contract requirements, but when I ask him to move out, he threatens to file a lien for his work completed in hopes he can stay and I’ll keep paying for him to survive (no income). I’m willing to stick with the original payment arrangement, but I can’t keep funding a project that isn’t getting done. Can he do this?
