What's the most effective way to make this client pay me my money.

ColoradoMechanics Lien

I drove to colorado from Kansas Dec 2022 and worked over christmas to get a job done for a customer. On Dec 26th the customer put all of my tools in the driveway and didn't pay me. The work cost approximately 8K I have have several hundred in materials I paid for and used at the job. I need some help collecting? Anyone up for this job?

I am sorry about the issues. There are plenty of attorneys that you can hire to sue this person, but the legal fees could end up being more than the amount you claim is due. If you think that any attorney would propose contingency (you don't pay until you win or it settles), I would find that incredibly unlikely.

You should consider small claims. The downside is that you cannot sue for more than $7500. The Colorado judicial branch website has excellent instructions, overviews, links and forms. You should also consider going to the small claims clinic. The rules, the handbook, instructions, forms and other resources are all available here https://www.courts.state.co.us/Self_Help/smallclaims/

In addition to the above Colorado resources, Nolo Publishing has an excellent book that provides a plain English discussion of small claims. Here is the site http://www.nolo.com/products/everybodys-guide-to-small-claims-court-NSCC.html. Please note that the foregoing is not a representation that the information is all that one needs for your matter or a warranty on their accuracy.

If you cannot afford a full representation, you should contact an attorney and consider having a limited representation. In this representation, the attorney provides specified services and they do not enter as the attorney of record in the case. This is normally less expensive and requires a smaller retainer. Our office and others offer limited representation. This is a brief overview https://bit.ly/3xY5VJS.

I hope this helped answer your question and reach out to attorneys for a consultation right away.
