What if the County Recorder's office is backed up?

Florida
Anonymous Subcontractor

We filed through levelset a discharge of lien for a Claim against the Owner. Levelset sent it to the County Recorder's office on 7/14/21. The County though is backed up for several weeks for processing. The owner is getting impatient. Is there a law that requires the County Recorder's office to process documents within a certain time frame?

You did not say which county you sent this to, but most counties have a "5 minute recording" option where, if you bring your document into the clerk's office and present it to the recording desk, they will record it on the spot for the regular recording fee. I suggest you contact the local clerk's office (or check their website) to see if this is an option. Obviously, due to COVID, clerks stopped (or severely restricted) this option for varying periods of time and some clerk's office may still have restrictions in place.

I do not know the answer to the specific question, but if the contractor has a copy of the signed release, he may see if he can e-record it.
