Last payment of my contract

Florida

I'm a owner who paid the last part of my pool contract for $5000. I made a signed release of lien with notary. The problem is that I was told by the coordinator in the company to do the check under his name, and not the company. We already did that with others payments, (I paid directly to a fence company for instance), so I didn't thought that was an issue. Now, the contractor company say that he did not receive the payment and want to sue me. The question is: I have a caches check under his coordinator name and the release of lien signed. I am in trouble? thank you Stella

The party who is supposed to sign a release of lien is the contractor, not the property owner. Are you saying you signed the release or the contractor did? If the coordinator was acting as an agent for the company, you may be ok. These issues are rarely black and white and it is hard to give you a definite answer without all the details.
