If I'm assigned to inspect work by our Building Official, what liability might I be assuming?

I work for a state government agency in Utah and one of my responsibilities is to pull an "Annual Permit" from our Building Official (i.e. our AHJ) to allow my workers to perform preventive and corrective maintenance (not new construction) on existing buildings. I'm not a building or code inspector nor qualified to be one. Am I exempt from liability as a state employee if one of my workers does something incorrect that gets missed and it ends up causing injury to another person?
