If I don’t have a contractors license, am I still liable if someone was injured from a structure built by me

TexasConstruction ContractLawsuitLicenses

So I’m sub contracting for a company. I’m preping the area for them to come through and do their thing. They asked me to add a small room, 2 walls and an exterior door. I mentioned pulling a permit for it and I’ve been asked not to pull a permit. I also mentioned the liability aspect. The project manager then told me since I don’t have a contractors license, I’m not liable if anything was to go wrong. I’m in Houston texas and I Don’t want to make a bad decision not fully understanding what I’m risking.

Whether or not you have a contractor's license means nothing in terms of your being liable for shoddy or faulty work. You should retain a construction attorney to evaluate your legal situation and to provide advice. The advice you are getting is not only worthless, but harmful.

It would be a bad decision not to put your concerns in writing. You should also confirm in writing what you are told or instructed.

Secure extra insurance coverage covering you and your work.

Good luck.
