If a subcontractor puts a lien on my property because the GC did not pay him for the finished work what happens to him

MinnesotaMechanics Lien

I hired a general contractor in late Sept and my project (job) started in Oct. I have made several payments to the general contractor as the job progressed for all the sub contractors work and he has not paid the sub contractors. I have been in conversation with the electrical sub contractor and he wants to put a lien on my property to light a fire under the general contractor. I understand what the lien means for me as the property owner but can not find info on what that means for the general contractor....(My contractor stopped communicating with me and will not answer me for the past 4 weeks.....his work has been less then professional and my contracted job is not complete with zero communication. I am just curious as to what will happen to the general contractor if a lien is placed by a sub contractor on my project
