I have filed a mechanics lien, can I also file a civil law suit?

IllinoisMechanics Lien

Hi, I filed a mechanics lien on a property, it just for 18k and the condo it’s valued at 2.5 M. I also would like to filed a civil law suit against them for the working conditions I was forced to work under and the treatment received.

You state that you've filed a Mechanics Lien against a property and wish to bring a civil suit against the owner(s) based on adverse working conditions. The short answer is "Yes," you may bring a separate lawsuit due to the working conditions, even as the lien remains in place. Eventually, you will also have to file suit to foreclose the Mechanics Lien, and may choose to file a single, combined lawsuit - but you may also file separately.

I hope this information was helpful. Best of luck.

If the lien is properly perfected, you can file a lawsuit to foreclose the lien along with any other claims you may have.
