I am a homeowner who has had a mechanic's lien filed against his house

Idaho
Jim Ketterling

I had solar panels installed. I hadn't signed the loan documents, came across a cancellation notice, and sent it to the loan company in hopes they might let us out of the deal if we agreed to pay the cost of having the solar panels removed. Apparently, that was a huge mistake because they took out a lien against my house. I understand that they want paid, but this seems vindictive and unnecessary. I have every intention of paying the loan at the terms I agreed to, but now I'm afraid that they want their money upfront (which I absolutely don't have). Can they take my house?

Good morning Jim,

Thank you for reaching out, sorry to hear of your situation.

I am not allowed to give legal advice, so you may want to reach out to an attorney just to be sure.

From what I know, your house is not exempt in Idaho. Typically a company would have to file for foreclosure on your house in order to "take it from you" as you state. Depending on the amount that is outstanding, normally the costs aren't worth it.

We do have a Legal Support channel which is attorneys that will give you specific advice for free - you may want to reach out Here .

I wish you the best of luck! Please don't hesitate to reach out if there is anything additional I can help you with.
