Homeowner prevented us from removing all of our extra materials from a job, now is trying to charge $1,500 storage fee.

California

Homeowner breached contract and prevented us from completing work on her property. She threatened to call the police on us if we came to do any work or remove our tools and materials. She was unresponsive for 30 days and we had given her plenty of notice and attempted over 20 messages. We went to clear out out tools and materials and prevented us from removing all of our extra materials from a job, now is trying to charge $1,500 storage fee. She pushed me and locked the gates while we were on the jobsite clearing out our things. We had to call the police afterward so they could be there while we removed our stuff. The homeowner began to be hostile toward the police officers and they told her they had to go as she was being out of line. She then called the police and falsified a report that I was assaulting her-- we have it all on video that nobody was doing anything to her at all, we were simply moving our tools and materials off the jobsite. We also have on video the things she prevented us from removing that day-- some wood, buckets, and two wheelbarrels-- one pickup truck worth. Now she sends us a letter she is charging us $1,500 storage fee and will throw all of our stuff away if we do not make an arrangement to come pick it up within 30 days from 6/10. She mailed it on 7/6 and we just received the letter on 7/7. We filed a mechanic's lien recorded with the county on 6/22 for the non payment of work completed which is for $21,500.
