No. You can be employed by the general, but you cannot perform as a subcontractor with a license to do so.

Thank you! Now that may be a stupid and redundant question but just to be 100% sure, does this mean I can only be employed strictly as a W2 employee and not 1099?
Yes, I believe you should be a W2 employee of the GC, as a 1099 is for independent contractors. Good luck.
