We filed the lien in December 2019. The system states that we filed late. Are we still able to file suit to enforce the lien?

You cannot enforce a late filed lien. You can sue to collect on the improvements you performed but were not paid for.

Hello,
Anyone can file a lien, but it does not mean it is valid and enforceable. If the lien is on your homestead, and you are not going to be selling your house in the next year, you may just want to let the lien sit, because it is only good for a year.
