Can a non-architect, IT consultant sign the AIA G702 to certify payment?

Texas

An IT Network consultant is the Owner’s design professional for the IT portion of a design project. They are responsible for the design and oversight of that portion of the project. They are not licensed architects. The IT contractor has submitted a G702 with G703 for payment. The forms appear to be properly filled out. Legally, can the IT consultant sign on the architect certification line?

Hello, Great question. The IT consultant should not sign as an architect because they are not one, but you can change the form to put in what their title is instead of an architect. If the general contractor and/or owner are willing to have certification by the IT consultant, it is not an issue.
