As a Professional Engineer, can I get referral fees (example: I hand a job off to a fellow or different discipline eng) and receive a "referral" fee or percentage of the payment? EX-2: Hand off job to another engineer ON THE CONDITION that they give a percentage of the fee they will receive back to person handing off?

Hello,

Referral fees are determined by the ethics of your industry.

For example: Lawyers can't split fees with non-attorneys and the same with insurance agents and non-insurance agents. If we do, we can get disciplined by our governing body up to and including license removal. It's not a law but our governing body has put forth that rule.

Check your industry ethics.
