I allowed my California license to expire in 2015. I just found out about the rule change of 2020 that allows reciprocity Chapter 489, Florida Statutes. Hello, Does the statement below applies to all the states or only certain reciprocating states? I am electrical contractor for 10 plus years in WA state thinking to move to Sarasota Florida. Thank you in advance! In July 2020, Florida changed its contractor licensing statute with respect to license RECIPROCITY The new rules make it easier for out-of-state contractors — who have been licensed in other states for at least 10 years — to obtain a Florida contractor’s license without having to take a licensing exam. ...Read More

We have provided estimating, permit application submittal, value engineering and consulting services to an owner with the understanding that we would be the General Contractor for 5 homes. We did not have a contract with the owner because there was a verbal agreement that we would be the builder. The owner decided to use another builder and we are owed 15k for the many hours of plan review, permit application preparation, phone calls and emails. How should we proceed in order to collect monies owed?...Read More

We are an Excavation subcontractor in the State of Texas looking to get a license to do work in the State of Florida in the same capacity as a Texas Subcontractor. Most of the information I have been reading for the licensing tasks needed to complete in Florida refer to "Contractor" but this seems to take on the definition of a "General Contractor" like in the State of Texas. Does Florida have licensing that I need to follow to be licensed as a subcontractor in the state? I have heard from one source that the only way to be licensed as a subcontractor in Florida is to be registered by each county you will perform work in. Please clarify this and it's requirements.......Read More

I contacted a contractor to remodel my condo. The work included painting, flooring and cabinets. I agreed on prices for the first 2 but I wanted to think about cost of cabinets. I told contractor I would let him know the next morning. I decided not to replace them..was going to repaint. But when I went to condo the next morning, the cabinets were gone. Also, one of the tiled bathroom wall was taken down. I spoke with him and he said he would repair wall with wainscoting for no charge. I wanted all walls the same and told him that I didn't like panel at all. He said he worked on million dollars houses and the was the new trend. He said for cost of material, he would do the other 2 walls (extra $400) . He said he wasn't making money on job so wouldn't change amount of cabinets. The walls are completed and I don't like them and the work is not well done. Cabinets are still not in . Painting is okay but several of tiles are uneven. Am I legally required to pay for all or part of the work?...Read More
