The Hancock County Recorder’s Office does not publicly disclose information on recording backlog. However, note that the county’s document turnaround time is 1-2 days.

If your construction project is located in Hancock County, then yes, you should file your lien here.

The Hancock County Recorder’s page requirements are as follows::

1. a 3” top margin on page 1 along with a 1” side and bottom margin.
2. a 1.5” top margin and 1” side and bottom margin on every page after page 1.

You will be charged a $20 fee if they are non-conforming.

The Hancock County Recorder’s recording fees are as follows:

Recording Fees

Basic recording Fees: $28.00 for the first two pages and $8.00 for each additional page

Effective October 17, 2019, statewide recording fees for most documents will increase by $6.00 due to the enactment of HB 166 state budget legislation. The new recording fee for the first two pages will be $34.00 (previously $28.00). Each additional page remains the same as current law at $8.00.

Marginal Reference: $4.00 each

Non Conforming Fee: $20.00

Lien Fees

For Recording MECHANIC’S LIEN Sec. 1311.06: same fee as for deeds, etc.

For Indexing and Recording NOTICE TO COMMENCE SUIT on Mechanic’s Lien:
same fees as release of mortgage or other liens Sec. 1311.11

For recording or making a copy of STATEMENT OF SUBCONTRACTOR, etc. or certificate of the date of such filing for record: same fees as provided in Sec. 317.32. Sec. 1311.29.

PUBLIC FUNDS LIEN Sec. 1311.29: same as Statement of Subcontractor.

Copies made by the Recorder’s Staff: $2.00 per page

Certified Copies: $2.00 per page plus $1.00 for each seal
