The Crawford County Recorder’s Office does not publicly disclose information on recording backlog. However, note that the county’s document turnaround time is 24 hours.

If your construction project is located in Crawford County, then yes, you should file your lien here.

The Crawford County Recorder’s recording requirements are as follows:

1. Documents MUST be originals, signed, and notarized
2. Documents Prepared in Ohio, Must Contain “Prepared By” Statement.
3. Prepare documents legibly.
4. Include the complete legal description of the property. Needed for geographic indexing.
5. Properly reference previously recorded documents when you submit subsequent related documents for recording. Include: Book & Page number.
6. Identify schedules and exhibits clearly.
7. Include the correct filing fee.
8. Include separate checks for Recorder, Auditor, & Treasurer.
9. Include a self-addressed stamped envelope to ensure return of the original document. Otherwise the Recorder’s Office will charge you postage to return the original document.
10. Include the name and address of preparer and the return-to address for the document. Also, include your telephone number to call if there is a minor, correctable problem.
11. Check your work, especially for extra fees, to make sure your document is complete for recording in order to avoid rejection.

The Crawford County Recorder’s document standardization guidelines are as follows:

* Computer font size of at least 10 point
* Minimum paper size 8 ½ x 11; Maximum paper size 8 ½ x 14
* Black or Blue Ink ONLY
* No use of Highlighting
* 3 inch margin on the top of the first Page ONLY. (Reserved for Recorder, Auditor & Engineer)
* Margins of 1 ½ inch on top of each of the remaining pages
* Margins of 1 inch on each side of the page and on the bottom

If a document does NOT conform to these guidelines, an additional $20.00 will be collected.

You can send in a mail request to order certified copies. When requesting copies to be sent through the mail, the Recorder’s Office requires a self-addressed stamped envelope to ensure proper return.

Make sure to include an appropriate sized envelope and postage for number and size of documents being requested.
