The DeKalb County Clerk of Superior Court’s Office does not publicly disclose information on recording backlog.

If your construction project is located in DeKalb County, then yes, you should file your lien here.

The DeKalb County Clerk of Superior Court’s recording requirements are as follows:

1. Documents must be complete before recording.
2. Most documents must be signed, witnessed and notarized.
3. All deeds of conveyance must have a printed, complete PT-61 (can be completed online, GSCCCA.org/file or in the Notary/Trade name
area of the Clerk’s office.)
4. State Identification is required for any filing.
5. Bond to Discharge Lien – Bond, Security or Cash, must be double the amount of the lien if commercial property or must state residential. Clerk must approve bond before it is recorded. Authority O.C.G.A 44-14-364
6. Materialmen / Laborers Lien – Must be filed within 90 days from the date of completion of work or last day materials were furnished. Authority O.C.G.A. 44-14-361
7. Cross References – Incur a fee of $2.00 per cross reference on any document presented for recording.

There are no specific formatting requirements for mechanics liens filed in the state of Georgia.

The DeKalb County Clerk of Superior Court’s Office accepts credit cards, cash, money orders and in some cases business checks made payable to the Clerk of Superior Court. Note that there is a credit card surcharge of 2% fee +$1.00.

Every user must have an account to view and print images. The monthly charge for a regular account is $11.95. The cost to subscribe for a Single-Use account is a one-time activation fee of $5.00. However, a Single-Use account can be upgraded to a Regular account any time before the account expires.

The images may be viewed without charge and may be printed for a charge of $0.50 per page. Any method of accessing the images other than by printing is strictly prohibited.
