We are a small, growing painting company from Kennesaw, GA. We were told about a General Contractor (Graphite Construction) who was hiring painters to work on some residential new home projects in Atlanta, owned by Brock Built construction. We interviewed with them and agreed to be paid a daily labor rate of $1200 per day for 6 days. (which we are now currently in the process of going to small claims court to recover payment) We are insured and have an LLC, but no business license yet. I am researching if we are required to hold one, and if so, is it state, county where we live, or county where we are working? I also sent an intent to lien to the builder, since the GC refuses to pay.

IdahoIf I have had my Connecticut GC license for 10+ years, could I apply for my FL GC license under this new reciprocity agreement? After searching on the dbpr website there is only 3 or so states listed under this agreement, and CT is not one of them. Just wanted to double check since filing under the reciprocity agreement would save me tons of time, and of course I cannot get through to the FL department of business myself. Thanks!

VirginiaI’m a handyman who took on our back patio after guy our landlord hired started but left our back patio wide open and never returned. She was to pay me $3000. The city contacted her mid project advising about non license work and no permits being requested for work here. She now says no payment because she had to pay city fees that were doubled due to not having proper permits.

FloridaI contracted with an entity to do some construction work on my property. (1) While one of the owners has a license under his name, the entity itself does not appear to have a license. Does that comply with CSLB requirements, or does the contracting entity need its own license? (2) Also, I suspect they used subs who are unlicensed. Assuming that's true, would that mean I don't have to pay the GC with whom I contracted? Thanks!
