I believe a person was impersonating as a licensed general contractor. When I verified the license in GA, the license belonged to a completely different individual. When I called the provided insurance carrier of the general contractor, the insurance company said the company did not have an active policy. Unsafe electrical and structural work has caused many problems but I do not know the proper legal process to follow. I believe a breach of contract seems correct however since the company has no verifiable information or entity, it actually sounds more like fraud and criminal negligence?...Read More

I got a rural development sr. Grant/loan. Because the rural development field person didn't send out the contract that contractor to review until right before closing & contractor didn't like the terminology, he didn't sign. Through word of mouth a different & to busy contractor told me if another contractor . That contractor claimed he was licence & even provided a false license number. My phone was glitchy when I looked him up & I only say no enforcement actions. Through the after work inspection, it was found out that he wasn't a licenced contractor & the state appears to have pulled his registered status & won't allow him to make code corrections. My questioning is, does the states statues about warranty, right to repair with 30 day inspection & 15 day offer to repair still apply?...Read More

Need to hire a painter in Aventura, FL (the city has its own requirements, but for now I want to know at least the state requirements). I got two quotes one for $2,000 and one for $3,100. However the more expensive one can start immediately (I am pressed on time). Do I have to deal with any permits, NOC, etc. just for a paint job for the walls of my condo? If a painter is not licensed, is that a problem or do I need to look for licensed ones?...Read More

We are an 8-year-old Canadian civil construction contractor that has completed the majority of our work in Canada for the Federal, Provincial, and Municipal levels of government, primarily bridges, underground, and structures. We are in the process of establishing a US office in Florida and are having difficulty obtaining the GC license required to tender residential, commercial, and DOT projects, as well as perform public and our own developments. My understanding is that the GC license is tied to an individual rather than the actual corporate entity, and I'd like to know how we navigate this challenge, given that we have Canadian L1 staff kicking this off and have received pushback when attempting to have a senior supervisor who previously held gold seal certification in Canada write the exam and attain the certification. The most difficult challenge thus far has been a lack of US credit history, US-based CGL coverage (current CAD policy covers US operations, but US underwriters require proof of state license before activating policy), proof of US workers compensation (CAD WCB policy covers out-of-province operations for 6 months), and a lack of eagerness to have the company's ability to work tied to a new hire worker. We appreciate your strategy and tactics for dealing with this....Read More

I have a problem because the contractor I was working for fired me before finishing the job, just because I was demanding the payment he owed me for the work done, after that he doesn't want to pay me and doesn't answer my calls and He hides me so as not to pay me and I need to recover my money, so I need the help of a lawyer to be able to do it.
