Hi there is a subcontractor that doesn't have a bond program (they are the ones doing the work), so the owner is having his other company issue the bond. Even the contract is being reissued between the GC and the new sub. However this new sub won't be doing the actual work & neither sub is on each others insurance policies. How can this situation be fixed so that the GC is covered?
ColoradoI am a private citizen who hired a contractor for remodeling. He failed to complete the job and the California Contractors licensing board investigated and ended up suspending his license. I have been awarded a claim of approximately $6K but the Surety bond company is postponing paying and continues to tell me that the contractor said he is making payments to me, which he is not. I have been getting this run around for 7 months and have not received a dime yet. Doesn't the surety bond have to pay me? What do I need to do to make the bond company pay me the $6K?

North CarolinaI am working for a construction company and I am doing research on the states in the United States that accept retainage bonds. I know that not every state accepts Retainage bonds (for example, I know Tennessee doesn't while Washington does). Could you please provide a list of the states that do accept Retainage bonds?

WashingtonHi I had a contractor start work April 1, 2021 he has been paid for work as we had several projects should be done today he has let me know he is not doing work as he is unable to do so. OhioWe are material suppliers in MO, supplying material to a Bonded job in Illinois. I know we normally have 90 days to file against a bond, but this job is well past that point and with only having retainage left, the GC is now filing a lawsuit against the owner. It is well past the 6 months as well, do we have any other recourse?

CaliforniaWe are a subcontractor working on a project in Butte, MT for Katerra LLC. They have declared they are finished. Sure you may have read of them in the media. We had not had a Preliminary Act Lien for the project (never even heard of it before). The project was started in September 2020. Can we place one now for going forward in the event they do not pay. They are NOT in arears as of yet. We are expecting payment next week. The branch we deal with said yesterday, they are branching off, rebranding and things are "status quo "so to speak.
