Withdrawal of NOC from a specific contractor

FloridaNotice of Commencement

Hi We initially agreed to get our new roof done with a contractor for our Florida home but one day later, found out about so many negative reviews on Google. We changed our minds and tried to pull from agreement. But now they're saying because they already filed NOC with our name, we have to go through with this or we will get charged. How much would have coated them when they file or withdraw NOC for our roofing project? Thanks

Releasing a Florida Notice of Commencement isn't very complicated or expensive. Ultimately, it just requires filing a Notice of Termination of Notice of Commencement - and you can determine the cost of filing that document by contacting your local county recorder's office. You can find their contact info here: Florida County Recorder Directory. Before deciding on whether or not to terminate a contractor, it'd be wise to review your contract to look for any termination provisions. Following those will help to ensure that everything's done by the book and no liability is taken on. And, if there's a termination for convenience clause present, it might be a really easy process. Typically, though - termination shouldn't be that costly if the work hasn't even begun. But again - the terms of the contract could change that.
