hi, we gave our contractor 50% of our house project's total cost. We just found out that although his crew has been working on the house with the materials that have been delivered, he never ordered the remaining materials to complete the job and also owes the lumber yard for the windows and siding that were delivered. We want to cut ties with the contractor as soon as possible. What is the safest document for us to use so he cant come back and say we owe him more? We will settle up with the lumber yard directly and they will give us a balance paid receipt. Thank you
I recommend that you retain an attorney and negotiate a settlement agreement with contractor that includes a release of any potential claim that the contractor may have against you.
