Alabama laborers must send a Notice of Unpaid lien before they can file a mechanics lien. And, it's usually a good idea to send the notice earlier than later. If it's sent too late, then the property owner may fully pay their prime contractor, eliminating the laborer's ability to file a lien claim. Though, if that happens, there will still be other options for recovery. For detailed discussion on the notice and it's implications, these two articles will be really useful: (1) Alabama: Notice of Unpaid Lien; and (2) Alabama Preliminary Notice Guide and FAQs.
