How long will a lien that's perfected and recorded last in South Carolina

South CarolinaLien Foreclosure

Levelset recorded a lien on behalf of my client in South Carolina in 2018. I'm wondering how long the line will remain effective and not subject to discharge, please?

Unfortunately, that time has passed. The timeframe in which a South Carolina mechanics lien is valid is governed by S.C. Code §29-5-120. Under this statute, an enforcement/foreclosure action must be initiated within 6 months of the last day the claimant furnished labor or materials to the project. If not, the lien will no longer be valid or enforceable. At this point, the property owner simply needs to fils an affidavit stating the deadline had passed, and the claimant failed to take timely action; which will remove the claim from their property title.
