Sending a Notice of Intent to Lien is a powerful tool for forcing payment. But, there's no guarantee that you'll immediately be paid - and taking additional steps may be necessary. Before taking drastic action, though, it might be worth following up with the recipients of the notice to discuss payment. This is especially true when you know they've been regularly viewing the Notice of Intent. Obviously, filing a mechanics lien could be an option. Mechanics liens work in a number of ways to force payment, and most claims get paid pretty quickly after the lien gets filed. Another option, before proceeding with a lien claim, might be to send a demand letter threatening to take specific legal action. And, certainly, legal claims could be brought - like a breach of contract claim. But, typically, utilizing a mechanics lien claim will be preferable to jumping ahead to legal claims.
