Do MI NOCs automatically expire after one year (or some other allotted time) as they do in other states?

MichiganNotice of Commencement
Anonymous Contractor

I'm reviewing title and one showed up that is over a year old. I need to know if I can ask for it to be deleted from title or if we will need a Termination filed. I couldn't find that info when I Googled.

That's a great question. Looking at the Michigan mechanics lien statute, it does not appear that a Michigan Notice of Commencement will automatically expire after some predetermined date. So, if a Notice of Commencement must be cleared from a property title, that would likely require some active process - like having the party who filed the Notice of Commencement releasing the recording from the record.
