Leveraging mechanics lien rights is probably one of the most powerful ways to make sure payment gets made on your project. And, to be sure, mechanics lien rights are available even if someone other than the owner will be paying for the work. More on how lien claims work, here: How Do Mechanics Liens Work? 17 Ways a Lien Gets You Paid. Leveraging lien rights doesn't necessarily mean jumping into a lien filing, though. One common early step is to send an invoice reminder. That brings the debt to the recipient's attention - and they'll have to decide to either pay it, dispute it, or continue ignoring you. Taking things a step further and sending a Notice of Intent to Lien can be useful, too. Sending a lien threat to the homeowner and to the insurance company will let them know you're serious about being paid and willing to do what it takes to make sure that happens. And, by sending it to the owner, that can put additional pressure on the insurer to pay what's owed since the owner won't be happy. Finally, filing a mechanics lien or pursuing other options - like legal claims or sending the debt to collections - could be options, too.
