Will the mechanics lien being filed prior to the customers receipt of notice of intent void the lien?

We filed for a notice of intent to be sent as well as a lien, but they sent them out of sequence. The lien has been sent to the recorder and the notice of intent has yet to be sent to the customer. If I understand correctly, it is mandatory that the notice of intent is received first.
