City and township Assessors use a standardized "shorthand" to insert legal descriptions into the tax rolls, which are forwarded to the County Lands and Graphics Office to input into the county website. A deed legal description might read " thence North 22 degrees 18 minutes 30 seconds West 725.25 feet to the Point of Beginning..." the tax roll would read "N 22d 18m 30s W 725.25 ft to POB>>>"
They should match each other but remember that people enter the data so errors can happen.

Ok. Thank you very much. Our deed says .46 acres and the county and twp. says we have an acre and a half. Trying to get to the bottom of it. Thought I could find some proof if the land was sold or what is going on. Since we lived here we have been using the 1.5 acres with no issues with neighbors. Now the got a survey done and a corner of the shed is supposedly on their property and have a fence running into it both ways and expect us to move the shed and foundation it sits on. I will need a lawyer I believe to resolve these issues. Thank you again and I will get your number to contact you.
I agree with Mark Davidson that County and township tax assessors use a shorthand version of a legal description HOWEVER you really need to do a thorough search of the property records filed with the Register of Deeds. What might have happened is that the previous owner of the larger parcel "split" the property and sold it separately without properly registering the split.
