When filing a mechanics lien is it for the portion of work completed or the sub contract amount?

I would like to know if a mechanics lien is for portion of work completed or the entire signed legal contract value of the work?

Great question. A New York mechanics lien claim, and lien claims in general, can be filed for amounts owed but unpaid for work performed. Work that has not been completed will not give rise to lien rights - so, if a contract for work has not been completed, amounts that represent payment for future work should generally not be included in a lien claim.
