When do the lien waivers get signed? At the time the subcontract is signed or at the end of the job when requesting payment?

At the time of each payment (for partial lien waivers) and a final lien waiver at final payment.

I agree with Amanda that the typical time frames are at the time of payment. It's not always a good idea to sign the lien waiver though. The lien waiver should also have certain language in it to make sure the contractor is protected before signing it; and in some instances language (like general releases) should be removed. Lien waivers seem straight forward on their face, but there are some nuances that should be considered on a case by case basis. Feel free to reach out if you would like to discuss it further.
