Hey, I recently opened up a pressure washing business with social media links and a website. Do I need any business permits or licenses to operate my business or legitimize it? I'm currently operating cash only, but I'd like to get insurance, and I believe I need a business license for that. But as it stands, I'd like to legitimize my existing business. Mind you, I don't have a storefront or warehouse yet- I'm operating a services business which travels to locations provided by clients and completes work there.
It depends on the county/city in which you intend to operate, but many municipalities may consider a business like yours to fall under the requirement to obtain a home improvement contractor's license. In all honesty, as much of a bureaucratic headache as it may be, it's much easier to get the license and have it than to have the problems associated with not having it.
