What if a client sends a letter disputing a lien I filed with levelset?

Georgia

I sent a lien for a job we completed on 9/21/20. The lien was filed and delivered on 12/14/20. I received a letter this week stating the we must remove the lien and that it is being disputed, but I would assume this would come from the court not a private lawyer. What are my options here? How would I know if this letter is credible?

In our adversarial system, any initial dispute of your lien and claim would come from the owner or its attorney. The Court would only take a position after a trial in the form of a judgment. You should have an attorney review the letter to determine what is being disputed and the ramifications of that. If the letter disputing your claim is a "notice of contest" which has also been recorded in the property records, that would reduce the time for you to take an action by filing a lawsuit from one year to 60 days, so your rights would be greatly curtailed. You should consult an attorney to discuss your options and your best course of action.
