What does it mean that Illinois is a partial pay state vs a pay in full state??

IllinoisMechanics Lien

I've sent a notice of intent to lien and my client paid only a small portion of the balance owed. I'm planning to move forward with filing a mechanics lien but I'm curious to know if it will require the client to pay the balance in full.

The question makes no sense? If you are owed monies for work, labor or materials you have lien rights.

The answer to your question is that partial payment will offset the total amount due under your Mechanics Lien. If you file a Complaint to Foreclose the lien, you must reflect the fact that partial payment(s) were made, reducing the overall balance.

I hope this information was helpful. Best of luck!
